| Tóm tắt: | The content of summary information: This study investigates the characteristics English culture and Vietnamese culture in using black and white color. The objectives of study find out the similarities and differences between English culture and Vietnamese culture in using set expressions containing words black and white and give some suggested implications for teaching and learning how to use set expressions containing words black and white in English and Vietnamese. this study only focuses on set expressions containing words black and white in English and Vietnamese to find out their features from the cultural perspective. Data used for analysis in this study were mainly collected from English dictionaties and Vietnamese dictionaries. The major methods are used descriptive and contrastive, comparative methods. The result of study illustrates the fact that English culture and Vietnamese culture are quite similar in using set expressions containing words black and white. However, there is a clear difference in using black and white in English culture and Vietnamese culture. Vietnamese uses “đen” and “trắng” in idioms and proverbs to give life experiences, production, opinion that has been drawn through the generations. Otherwise, in English culture idioms and proverbs contain black and white does not mention this range. |
